My grades and health dropped from losing interest in school, family, and friends, causing me to be irritated with anyone and any inconvenience. My irritation started to spread throughout my house causing my family to lose interest in being around me. I felt like I was not present in my parents' life, and I did not matter to them. I knew this was not true, but this feeling led me to desire change because my family is what is most important to me, and I value their opinions. I thought to myself if I kept this act up, where would I go in life. I do not want to be an adult that lives off their parents' dime. My dad is another significant part in supporting me through high school, until I faced him being deployed overseas. He was gone for about seven months, leaving my family and I to fill a void that was nearly impossible to prepare for.
We would talk with him frequently, but his absence still weighed on my mom, little sisters, brother, and especially myself. Obviously, the situation was not that way at all because of the military obligations he has, but I felt selfish to explain that to my family. I had this feeling to make sure my family was okay, before I took care of myself. My life was supposed to solely be about keeping my grades up, and my performance, but doing so was hard with my circumstances. There was no preparation to have him ripped away from us , but somehow I managed my school work and mental health to come out stronger on the other side when my dad returned. Going through challenges is a path I have grown familiar with, because I found that they bring out the best in me. So following the easy path in life is simply not an option.
I have embraced challenges since the first day of high school. Now, with a 4. High school breaks you down until you have two choices, stay broken or rise up. I started freshman year as a scared little freshman. I entered Blackfoot high school for the first time with a million little butterflies dancing in my stomach. I was terrified of upper classman and avoided them at all costs. I eventually found my friends, figured out were my classes were and realized that everything was going to be okay. I wish that there was all there was to my high school experience. Some days got hard and some years got harder.
But in the end I have learned and grown from my high school experience. It has been tough gaining School experience, however; my old primary school was very nice in allowing me to shadow different teachers to see if teaching is the right career path for me. I previously gained work experience in a school 8 years ago nevertheless, things have changed intensely. Technology is swiftly changing and children often use laptops as well as interactive whiteboards to increase their development in learning. I have been trying to gain as much experience as possible however, due to work commitments, I have only been able to shadow teachers whilst I have taken holiday from my current job.
Helping teachers in my old Primary school was fantastic as I was able to teach children the basics such as reading or spelling. I was set a task to determine how well children were reading and to make notes in their reading diaries to allow parents to see how well their child has developed. Whilst the children were reading I would help them voice certain words that they found tough. I also was in a year three class and the teacher set them a Maths task I was there to help and make notes in the book to help children develop. The teacher in that classroom explained to me that she has deliberately sat all mixed abilities across the classroom as children should be. In 5th grade I remember that there was a school-wide competition for most points accumulated and most books read.
I won first place for most points accumulated but took second for most books read. Through my elementary school experience I had read the Harry Potter series, The Series of Unfortunate Events, a thirteen book series, and the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. There was a state-wide writing contest during my 5th grade year in which I made it to the state level. The topic of writing was about bridges. The story could a literal bridge. As I walked from the middle school to the high school for the very first time, I knew that high school was going to be an adventure to remember.
I wish I could go back to that day, and tell myself that I was going to be ok. Other than physical things, I think that the main thing that has changed is that I am much more confident than I was as a weird little middle schooler. I am no longer afraid to walk up to people and talk with them, and interact between the class. It is staring at the clock waiting for the bell to ring to finally go to your favorite class of the day. It is staying after a long day of class for meetings, clubs, or sports, or it is spending Friday nights with your best friends performing under the football field lights. High school can be many different experiences for different people, but most importantly, for me, it was learning essential values of life while shaping me into the person that I am today.
As a small child in elementary school, I can remember the anticipation of unstructured recess that followed our daily lunch routine. Ordinarily, the bell for lunch would ring. The teacher would line everyone up and that is when the excitement would erupt. Immediately the chatter of little voices commenced among the students as they collaborated with their peers about what they desired to conquer first. At that very moment imaginations exploded! Were to begin? Where would the perfect place to meet up with your friends be? Would it be the luxurious field full of dandelions?
Or the merry-go-rounds, slides, swings, monkey bars, jump ropes, the possibilities were endless. The instant lunchtime was over the teachers would open the portal to a wondrous world of whimsical delight: The Playground! Instantly the deafening sound of screeching chairs sliding across the cafeteria floor would erupt. Followed simultaneously with the rumble of wild, uncontrollable energy bursting through the cafeteria doors. Students scattered uncontrollably; running competitively to their previously discussed desired positions. FREEDOM a time to run wild with no cares, no worries, a time to jump, and holler.
For example, I won a gold medal in Social science study Olympiad of Ulaanbaatar city, Bayangol district and took 8th place in a Social science Olympiad of Mongolia. Furthermore, I participated in a mathematics Olympiad several times. However, I won one silver medal of Mathematical Olympiad of Ulaanbaatar city. These Olympiads and preparation for Olympiads was an effective tool for university entrance examination. Studies besides mathematics and social science studies expanded my view of the world. For instance, I realized that physics, chemistry and biology are related to all natural phenomenons. During my high school years, I learned to love people, participate in social life and make decisions.
Of course that love is not the love of a couple, it is the love of your family, your classmates and furthermore all people of the world. In other words, I learned to help people and respect them. Also to learn how to make decisions by your own is very important because after graduation from high school, children become adults. In conclusion, high school was the place where I prepared to become an adult and an educated person. This essay was written by a fellow student. You may use it as a guide or sample for writing your own paper, but remember to cite it correctly.
Senior year is filled with many joys that students wait years for, but senior year also needs to prepare the students for life after high school. As students have worked diligently and have been fully committed, it is rewarding to finally make it to the special senior year. Seniors look forward to the football games, class seniority, prom, more freedom, and countless other activities. However fun it might be, the last year of high school is not fully preparing students for college or a career. The best manner in which to accomplish this goal is to provide more dual classes, have a wide range of electives to choose from, and give students the opportunity to leave school to go to work.
They say that high school is not necessarily the best four years of your life, and I agree. However, I believe that it is a place for unique growth and development—both of which are factors in finding the best in ourselves. With all of this said, I can say that entering Miriam College High School has definitely and ultimately transformed me to become the intellectually and spiritually focused woman I am today.
